Read on or contact QISYS SalesLogix right away to obtain the information you need for a successful SalesLogix upgrade. The best way to upgrade your current SalesLogix is to switch to the new SalesLogix v7 and extend these screens with any designs you’ve done before. Alternatively, you can consider the following solution.
In preparation for upgrading to the newest version of Sage SalesLogix – recently released SalesLogix v7, you will need to implement SalesLogix v6.2. Version 7 is based on the proven technology of v6.2, and the upgrade process has been designed to be smoother than ever before. Existing configuration and customizations remain fully backward compatible, and remote databases can be upgraded in the field without the need to create new remote databases. If you have not yet upgraded, consider making plans to transition to SalesLogix v6.2 before your version retires.
If you have decided to upgrade to SalesLogix version 6.2, you want to be sure that all the customizations and integrations from your prior version and your databases will transition smoothly to the new version. To achieve that, carefully review, test, upgrade and document all the database upgrades and data conversions, custom insert and detail screens, scripts, plug-ins, integration to third party applications and date conversion to GMT format. QISYS as a Business Partner will help with any or all of these components enriching your company with a newer, more efficient and customizable version of Sage SalesLogix to work with, sure to help you gain and maintain a competitive edge in your industry. Here is an example with SalesLogix version 6.2 of the things that should be considered before you begin upgrading:
Upgrading from Version 6.x to Version 6.2 or from Version 5.2.x to 6.2:
Requirements:
Before upgrading SalesLogix to version 6.2, you must:
• Upgrade to SalesLogix version 5.2 or later.
• Create a database backup. Even if you back up every night, do another backup before this installation to preserve any last-minute changes. Then, verify that your backup was completed successfully and that you can restore from it, if necessary.
Important: SalesLogix v6.2 includes many changes that require planning the upgrade and gathering information before you begin. For example, obtaining a list of users and the time zones in which they are located beforehand will greatly reduce the time required to complete the SalesLogix conversion to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Also note that you must create new databases for all Remote Users and Offices. Thus it helps to develop a plan before proceeding.
First Steps:
- Consult your SalesLogix Business Partner — QISYS SalesLogix — to plan your upgrade. We have been through it before and can advise you on how to avoid potential documented and undocumented pitfalls leading to unnecessary costs and lost productivity. We will also test databases, scripts, customizations, integrations to other applications all prior to finalizing the upgrade.
- Determine if your version can undergo a direct upgrade
- Assign each team a primary member
- Review picklists in your upgrade bundle and find out your JOINDATA
- For time zone conversion, have your users’ time zones ready
- Once you go ahead with the SalesLogix upgrade, only conduct tests in development or test environments, not in your production system.
